WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Presented in its original UK theatrical version and based on the darkly comic novel by Irvine Welsh, Trainspotting follows the life of unrepentant heroin user Mark Renton (McGregor) as he struggles to escape the responsibilities of life and friendship. Critically lauded and equally controversial, it is a harshly beautiful portrait of friendship devastated by urban blight. Although it is labeled a comedy—and is often humorous—the film portrays the dark, dramatic and shockingly real effects of heroin use.

LaserDisc Picture:
The 1.85:1 picture exhibits generally good color fidelity with natural fleshtones and deep blacks. Images are sharp and detailed with excellent shadow detail and contrast. Noise and minor artifacts are apparent throughout.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Digital 5.1 discrete soundtrack is virtually identical, but sounds slightly thinner when compared to the bass-rich matrix PCM. Dialogue sounds natural throughout with good spatial integration. Sound effects are in stereo, but surround is limited to a subtle presence.
