WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
This Is Spinal Tap is Rob Reiner’s “rockumentary” depicting a fictional band’s place in rock and roll history and their ill-fated 1982 USA tour. Marty DeBergi (Rob Reiner), in a series of hilarious interviews and archival film clips, introduces us to the band who has made it through the decades. While following them on a road tour, a sometimes successful and many times disastrous event, we are treated to some hilarious scenes, behind the occasional banterings, missed opportunities and cancelled gigs. But throughout the proceedings there’s a strength and a commitment to hanging on that keeps them going.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, reframed at 1.70:1, is grainy and noisy with artifacts that suggest a print element of low quality, perhaps purposely.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack was remastered in Dolby® Surround from the 16-track master.
