WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
The Hunt For Red October is based on the novel by Tom Clancy about The Red October, a new technologically-superior Soviet nuclear submarine headed for the U.S. coast with unknown intentions. The American government thinks Captain Ramius (Sean Connery) is planning an attack, but a CIA analyst (Alec Baldwin) believes he is planning to defect. With both the American and the Russian naval and air command on the hunt, the film is filled with high-tech excitement and intrigue.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, framed at 2.35:1, exhibits outstanding quality, emulating the dark reddish look of the theatrical presentation. The interior look of both American and Russian submarines is stunning with excellent shadow detail with both vibrant and warm colors.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The Dolby Digital® 5.1 discrete and matrix PCM soundtracks are differentuated by a slight widening of the soundstage and distinctive surround delineation on the discrete that doesn’t resolve on the matrix version. Low frequency effects delivered by the .1 channels also magnifies the dramatic impact, making the Dolby Digital soundtrack the preferred experience.
