WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Sleeping Beauty is a timeless story that combines some of Disney’s most enchanting characters. Based on the Charles Perrault version of Sleeping Beauty, the beautiful Princess Aurora is cursed by the evil Maleficent to prick her finger on a spinning wheel and fall into a deep slumber—able to be awakened only by the kiss of her one true love.

LaserDisc Picture:
Restored to its original theatrical brilliance, the Technirama® picture is framed at precisely 2.35:1. Although not quite as superb as Disney’s newer classics, the quality is nonetheless magical with excellent color fidelity, deep solid blacks and sharp and detailed images.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is dated, but has been “restored.” Neither soundtrack version, Dolby® Digital discrete or linear PCM Dolby Surround, is completely satisfying in presentation. The discrete presents a wider soundstage, but often sounds brittle and sometimes distorted. The matrix sounds slightly muffled overall with subdued high frequencies. Surround presence is subtle throughout the PCM matrix version, while often completely absent in the discrete.
