WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
A profoundly personal and thought-provoking film, Sling Blade represents a true labor of love for filmmaker Billy Bob Thornton—the persistence of vision which garnered him a 1996 Academy Award® for Best Adapted Screenplay. Thornton stars as Karl Childers, a recently released mental patient who returns to his hometown twenty-five years after killing his mother and her lover

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture quality of this 1.82:1 transfer is superbly sharp and detailed with excellent shadow detail and contrast. Color fidelity is completely natural with accurate fleshtones and deep, solid blacks. The picture is virtually noise free with no artifacts. Director Billy Bob Thornton effectively uses the widescreen palette, although sometimes to extremes.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack has a slight hum and sounds essentially mono. Surround presence is subtle and limited to the music score. Dialogue is generally ADR-produced and wanting in spatial integration.
