WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Alice, Sweet Alice, originally shown as Communion in 1976, but also known as Holy Terror, was model/actress Brooke Shields’ feature film debut (at nine years-old) as the spoiled, beautiful daughter of a preacher—but in the first reel is killed by her jealous and sadistic older sister, Alice (Paula Sheppard debuting at nineteen, playing the twelve year-old). Thus begins a series of murders involving the people in Alice’s life. Is this young, presumably innocent girl working alone? Filmed like a Hitchcock masterpiece, director Alfred Sole has created a chilling, entertaining and intelligent thriller. The alternate titles originate from re-releases following Shields’ fame. The original title sequence from Communion is included, along with a still gallery and reviews.

LaserDisc Picture:
The 1.85:1 picture is unnatural looking with poor color fidelity and fleshtones, and deep undefined blacks. Images are wanting in sharpness and detail. Shadow detail is overly dark and lacks definition. There is some slight noise and grain with distracting artifacts throughout.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The sound is undistinguished monaural which is compressed and distorted.
