WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Comes A Horseman is a sweeping modern-day western about the fight for one woman’s land in the 1940s. Jane Fonda stars as the hard-headed Ella Connors, a widow pressured to sell her enormous cattle ranch to her manipulative ex-lover, Jacob Ewing (Jason Robards). When she enlists the aid of her neighbor, Frank (James Caan), to help collect enough wild cattle from thick timberland to pay off their debts, she never suspected she would fall in love with him—and he would grow to love her as well. Driven by their own separate hatred for their mutual adversary, Frank and Ella survive stampedes, betrayal, sabotage and triumph.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, framed at 2.35:1, exhibits very natural color fidelity that looks only slightly dated with natural fleshtones, but weak blacks. Interior scenes seem plugged up and dark. Images are generally sharp and detailed but shadow detail is poor while the slightest noise and grain is apparent. There are occasional distracting artifacts in some scenes.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is undistinguished monaural that sounds compressed and dated throughout.
