WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Based on opera diva, Marjorie Lawrence’s life story and winner of the 1955 Academy Award® for Best Story And Screenplay, Interrupted Melody tells the extraordinary and heartwrenching story of a young Australian farm girl who earns a scholarship to sing in France. Alone in a foreign country, Marjorie Lawrence (Eleanor Parker) works her way to become a prima donna and meets the charming Dr. Thomas King (Glenn Ford). But when she is crippled by polio, Tom’s unconditional love for her helps Marjorie struggle to regain her dignity and recapture the glory of her musical career. The story of a faith seldom equalled, Interrupted Melody is an inspiring, uplifting treasure.

LaserDisc Picture:
The CinemaScope® picture, framed at 2.20:1 is extremely inconsistent throughout. The picture is bright and undersaturated with weak blacks. Throughout the movie, brightness and color shifts are an irritating distraction. Color fidelity is generally accurate, but some scenes will shift to an unnatural yellow hue. Noise and artifacts are apparent.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is dominantly monaural, except for the operatic music score.
