WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Bob Hoskins stars in his breakthrough film role in The Long Good Friday as Harold Shand, a low-down-dirty London crime boss whose empire is turned upside down on Good Friday—the weekend an American Mafioso is coming to finalize a business deal. His favorite pub, Rolls Royce and chauffeur are blown to smithereens; two of his best men are murdered; and his mother is nearly killed. Now, the sadistic side of Harold is released and he will hang every last suspect by meat hooks to find the faceless enemy who is trying to crucify him. The original American and British theatrical trailers are included with the feature presentation. Look for a young and unknown Pierce Brosnan.

LaserDisc Picture:
The matted 1.75:1 picture exhibits a slightly brownish tint, but exhibits generally natural fleshtones and color fidelity. Images are wanting in sharpness and detail. Shadow detail and contrast is mediocre. A veil of haze and artifacts are apparent throughout for a visually mediocre experience overall.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is undistinguished monaural with a bright, edgy sound characteristic that distracts.
