WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Based on David Ely’s book, Seconds is a fascinating suspense-thriller by John Frankenheimer, featuring “striking camera work” by cinematographer James Wong Howe, ASC. Desperate to escape his dreary dead-end life, burdened Arthur Hamilton (John Randolph) succumbs to a mysterious and seductive organization that offers him a second chance to live. Signing off his old life, Hamilton is surgically transformed into handsome, young Tony Wilson (Rock Hudson). Following in the footsteps of similar “reborns,” Tony begins an exhilarating new life with a free-spirited young woman (Salome Jens). But soon, Tony soon finds himself at odds with old and new life conflicts that carry a terrifying price—and a second chance to die.

LaserDisc Picture:
The black and white picture, matted at 1.70:1, exhibits excellent contrast and natural brightness with an excellent grayscale. The picture presents sharp and detailed images, good contrast and shadow detail. Slight noise and artifacts are apparent throughout.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is undistinguished mono that sounds dated, but decent.
