WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Released theatrically as Mad Dog Time, Trigger Happy is the off-beat crime comedy that delivers “non-stop laughs.” When mob boss Vic (Richard Dreyfuss) is released from a mental hospital, he returns to find that his organization is crumbling. Vic’s hired gun (Jeff Goldblum), has been all over his girlfriend (Diane Lane); Ben (Gabriel Byrne), wants to become the gang’s mastermind and bombshell Rita (Ellen Barkin), is about to detonate.

LaserDisc Picture:
The 1.85:1 picture exhibits superb quality with excellent color fidelity, natural fleshtones and deep, solid blacks. Images are sharp and detailed, although sometimes exhibiting a soft look. Shadow detail is superb. Only the slightest noise and artifacts are apparent.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is nicely presented on both the Dolby® Digital 5.1 discrete and matrix PCM, though at times they are very different in character. The music score presents an expansive soundstage that is slightly wider in the discrete. Dialogue is naturally presented and virtually identical on both versions. Surround envelopment is aggressive and although bass extension is deep, there is no .1 LFE.
