WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Based upon William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson’s novel, Logan’s Run is an original and intriguing science fiction tale that, according to Nolan, may be remade in the near future. Michael York stars as Logan, a “Sandman” in the 23rd century. His job is to terminate (or put to sleep) anyone who tries to escape their illegal survival past 30. But as Logan’s life nears its end, he decides to rebel, staging a desperate run for his own life. Special features include audio commentary, two featurettes, an American Cinematographer reprint from June 1976 and much more!

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, framed at 2.35:1, exhibits soft images throughout that are generally wanting in sharpness and detail. Color fidelity seems generally natural, but presents weak blacks. Shadow detail and contrast are generally good, but some of the darker scenes seem “muddy” and undefined. There is slight noise and minor artifacts apparent.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Digital 5.1 discrete soundtrack is inconsistent, but has a wider soundstage than the PCM matrix. Dialogue is directionalized, but sounds unstable and distorted. Bass extension is enhanced with effective .1 low frequency effects.
