WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Winner of three Academy Awards®, Moonstruck is a charming comedy in which a mischevious moon enlightens the lives of many in New York City’s Little Italy district. In the hopes of healing the bad blood between her fiancé, Johnny (Danny Aiello), and his resentful younger brother, Ronny (Nicholas Cage); the weary Loretta Castorini (Cher, Best Actress Oscar® winner) invites him to the wedding. But while Johnny is away in Sicily, at his ailing mother’s bedside, Loretta and Ronny find themselves swept into a whirlwind romance.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, overly dark and brownish in some scenes, exhibits otherwise generally natural color fidelity though blacks are undefined. Images are wanting in sharpness and detail with mediocre shadow detail and contrast. A slight veil of noise is apparent and there are artifacts throughout. The aspect ratio is 1.85:1.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is rendered in both discrete Dolby® Digital and matrix PCM from an original 4.0 discrete printmaster with monaural surround. The sound quality, while dated, is satisfying. The soundstage is generally wide with a terrific music score. Dialogue sounds natural throughout, though fidelity and presence is wanting.
