WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
187 tells the gripping story of Trevor Garfield (Samuel L. Jackson), a dedicated science instructor with a painful past. After 15 months of rehabilitation following an attack from a gangster student, Garfield returns to teaching. Confronting his past, his love for teaching and a new, unrelenting school at the same time; Garfield finds himself on an increasingly violent battlefield. 187, incited by stunning statistics of school-related attacks, is a provocative thriller written by a teacher.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, matted at 1.85:1, is nicely rendered with excellent color fidelity that exhibits natural fleshtones, rich and warm colors and deep blacks. Images are sharp and detailed and shadow detail is superb. There is no noise or artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is nicely produced with the PCM matrix version delivering slightly more ambiant soundfield dileniation. The Dolby® Digital discrete version sounds slightly more focused and defined and both versions’ surround presence is aggressive with the discrete providing directionalized effects. The music score is expansive and well recorded with excellent soundstage imaging. Dialogue is spatially integrated and sounds natural throughout.
