WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Based on the Leslie Charteris novels and television series, The Saint stars Val Kilmer as Simon Templar, the criminal of 1,000 faces. When a Russian billionaire (Rade Zerbedzija) hires Templar to steal a cold-fusion formula from Dr. Emma Russell (Elisabeth Shue), he wasn’t expecting the thief to fall for the beautiful scientist.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture exhibits good quality, although sometimes seeming a bit dark and subdued in color fidelity. A slight blue tint is apparent in many exterior scenes, most likely chosen by the filmmakers to present a cold feeling throughout the Russian locations. The Panavision® Scope aspect ratio is framed at 2.25:1.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The occasional use of split surrounds distinguishes the Dolby® Digital 5.1 discrete soundtrack from the matrix PCM. Otherwise, surround is aggressive with deep bass and the music score is beautifully recorded with excellent soundstage imaging. Dialogue is nicely produced with natural sounding spatial integration.
