WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
For Roseanna is a gentle, offbeat romantic comedy about a man (Jean Reno) who must keep his entire Italian village alive in order to fulfill his ailing wife’s (Mercedes Ruehl) last wish—to be buried in the insufficient local cemetery that doesn’t take reservations.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, framed 2.35:1, is slightly brownish, but exhibits generally natural color fidelity, accurate fleshtones, warm colors and deep blacks. Images are generally sharp and detailed with good contrast and shadow delineation. Slight noise is apparent throughout, but there are virtually no artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Digital 5.1 discrete soundtrack is nicely spatious and defined, but does not resolve low level ambient sounds as well as the matrix PCM version. While surround envelopment is generally subtle with slight discrete surrounds, the Dolby Digital version renders wider sound effects and often sounds more transparent when compared to the matrix. The music score sounds more dynamic in the discrete, with natural sounding bass reproduced by the .1 low frequency effects channel. Dialogue sounds natural throughout with excellent spatial integration.
