WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Grosse Pointe Blank is a thrilling, unconventional black comedy that features John Cusack as Martin Blank, a professional assassin with an upcoming high school reunion. There, he discovers that the girl (Minnie Driver) he ditched on prom night still wants retribution, and that he is being followed by his arch rival (Dan Aykroyd), corrupt federal agents and a lunatic who all want something from him.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, matted at 1.80:1 is oversaturated in color fidelity with deep, rich colors and blacks that are often undistinguished with grotesquely red fleshtones. Occasionally, exteriors look more natural. Images are generally sharp and detailed with minor noise and artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Digital discrete and matrix PCM soundtracks vary in sound quality. While the music score is well recorded and expansive, dialogue is veiled and mono focused, though sometimes natural sounding. The matrix actually creates a better sense of subtle surround envelopment. This is an uneven experience that sounds mediocre.
