WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Mad City features Dustin Hoffman as Max Brackett, a down-and-out news reporter who finds himself in a hostage situation with a group of schoolchildren when Sam Baily, a disgruntled former museum guard (John Travolta) returns to confront his boss (Blythe Danner) at gunpoint. Desperate for a career saver, Max begins to broadcast the incident live from the bathroom of the museum. But when Sam hears his eyewitness account on the television, he busts in on Max’s exclusive. Unfortunately, the gunman is about as smart as a houseplant and relies on Max to offer him guidance, while giving the brilliant reporter a chance to make a spectacle of Sam’s mistake.
