WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
The Man Who Loved Women is a charming drama about Bertrand Morane (Charles Denner), a solemn satyr who falls in love with nearly every woman he sees. He fakes a car accident to track down a woman via her license plate number. He keeps the morning wake-up operator on the phone because of her voice. In an attempt to make sense out of his obsession with the colorul women he has encountered, Morane decides to write an autobiography. For Morane, worshipping the feminine spirit was a lifestyle—he adored them—and an endless parade of women loved Morane as well. Nestor Almentdros’ cinematography is memorable.

LaserDisc Picture:
The 1.62:1 picture is oversaturated in color fidelity and overly dark throughout. Colors are dark and dull with brownish fleshtones and deep undefined blacks. Images are wanting in sharpness and detail, partially due to excessive grain. Shadow detail and contrast are poor. Noise and artifacts are apparent throughout. The subtitles are properly positioned to be read on widescreen monitors.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is undistinguished monaural that sounds compressed and distorted with background noise.
