WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Based upon a character from “A Man Called Horse,” by Dorothy M. Johnson, The Return Of A Man Called Horse is a triumphant story of a man who returns to the life he once loved. Lord John Morgan (Richard Harris), once lived a fulfilled and spiritual life among the Yellow Hand Sioux Indians. But after he returned to aristocratic England, his adopted people had been involved in a brutal and bloody war with a ruthless trapper. Decimated, enslaved and swept from their sacred homeland, their only hope for reassembling their tribe and customs now lies with Morgan—a man they call Horse. When Morgan returns to the Dakota Territory, he vows to make things right.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, framed at 2.32:1, is extremely soft in focus throughout. Color fidelity seems a bit subdued, but exhibits natural fleshtones, warm colors and deep blacks. Shadow detail and contrast are mediocre. Slight noise, grain and artifacts are apparent throughout.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The stereo matrix soundtrack sounds dated in fidelity, but has an expansive orchestral score and good directional sound effects. However, dialogue is distorted for a mediocre sonic experience.
