Story Synopsis:
Based on the best selling historical novel by Inoue Yasushi, Samurai Banners is set is the mid-1500s, during the Age Of The Warring States. Yamamoto Kansuke Haruyuki (Mifune Toshiro) is a crippled, but fearsome and intelligent warrior who rises to the position of Clan Chamberlain for Lord Takeda Shingen through trickery and betrayal. Takeda’s army does not know is that Kansuke is actually a spy for Uesugi Kenshin, Takeda’s greatest enemy. But when Kansuke learns that he is in love with the same woman as Takeda, the enemies must face off in the famous Battle of Kawanakajima.

LaserDisc Picture:
The 2.35:1 picture begins with a sepia-toned or black and white sequence that exhibits poor shadow detail and is marred with noise. The color fidelity exhibits many inconsistencies. Images are generally sharp and detailed and is the only asset to this presentation. The informative subtitles are not visible on the top and the language subtitles are cut off on the bottom of widescreen monitors.
