WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
The Thomas Crown Affair is an engaging thriller that effectively utilizes multi-screen photography as the action jumps from the boardroom to the streets. Steve McQueen stars as Thomas Crown, a Boston millionaire who masterminds a daring bank robbery just for the thrill of it. Faye Dunaway stars as insurance investigator Vicki Anderson who is determined to catch Crown, but falls in love with him instead. “The Windmills Of Your Mind,” filled with intrigue and romance, won the Academy Award® for Best Song.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, matted at 1.82:1, exhibits dull color fidelity that often appears plugged-up and marred with grain. While interior scenes are often brownish, exteriors are more natural looking in fidelity and fleshtones. Images are wanting in sharpness and detail, exhibiting a soft hazy focus. Shadow detail and contrast are mediocre. Slight noise and artifacts are apparent throughout.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is unfortunately undistinguished and distorted monaural though the music scoring is terrific.
