WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Based onthe book “Lazaro” by David Kendall, Where The River Runs Black is a spectacular story filmed on location in Brazil. When gold craving adventurers from the city enter a mother and son’s untouched sanctuary deep in the jungles, the boy is orphaned. A well-meaning priest (Charles Durning) captures Lazaro (Alessandro Rabelo), as he is named, and sends him to a disciplined boarding school to learn the ways of the “civilized” world. But when he discovers who his mother’s murderer is, Lazaro must return to the place

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, framed at 2.32:1, exhibits generally natural, fully saturated colors, but with slightly reddish fleshtones. Images are generally wanting in sharpness and detail, but sometimes exhibit good definition.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is beautifully designed with an incredible, eerie jungle ambience that aggressively develops with effectively directionalized sound effects. Dialogue sounds perfectly natural with excellent spatial integration. The music is terrific and expansive.
