WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Thirteen years after an unfulfilled prom date with outgoing Mary Jenson (Cameron Diaz), the still-lovesick Ted Stroehmann (Ben Stiller) is prompted to hire Pat Healy (Matt Dillon), a man of questionable morals, to track her down in the rude, crude, hilarious comedy There’s Something About Mary.

LaserDisc Picture:
The 1.85:1 picture looks wonderful, with vibrant, fully saturated colors, accurate fleshtones and deep blacks. Images are sharp and detailed, with nicely rendered fine definition and clarity. There is no distracting noise or artifacts for a picture that is sure to please in all aspects of image quality.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Digital discrete 5.1 soundtrack, while conventional, has moments that are satisfying, but overall bass response and surround envelopment is wanting when compared to the matrix PCM soundtrack. The music score is terrific with a light, fun quality. The discrete’s soundstage images wider, but often collapses to monaural or to stereo only with virtually no surround energy. But when there is an aggressive soundfield the discrete excels with split surrounds. Dialogue sounds natural with good spatial integration.
