WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Based on the novel by David Benedictus, You’re A Big Boy Now, is a coming-of-age comedy set in the ‘60s about a “nice young man” who yearns to venture out on his own. He moves from his parents’ Long Island home into an eighth-floor walkup in Greenwich Village and attempts the liberated lifestyle. This movie was Francis Ford Coppola’s UCLA master’s thesis, Karen Black’s first film and garnered a Best Supporting Actress Oscar® nomination for Geraldine Page. John Sebastian composed two songs for the film and performed them with The Lovin’ Spoonful for true ‘60s flavor. An added treat is a peak inside a pretzel factory!

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture has a dated appearance, but with generally natural fleshtones, warm colors and deep blacks. Images are generally sharp and detailed, with good contrast but mediocre shadow delineation. Some interior scenes exhibit colors that are slightly greenish, affecting fleshtones and whites. The overall picture, matted at 1.85:1, is grainy with apparent artifacts, and often seems plugged-up.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is undistingushed monaural that sounds compressed with poor fidelity.
