WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
A real treat for fans of the award-winning television series, The X Files finds Special Agents Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) closer than they have ever been to unlocking the secrets behind government conspiracies. The series’ plot elements and characters were incorporated into the film.

LaserDisc Picture:
The 2.35:1 picture is the same superb transfer as the LaserDisc reviewed in Issue 30, with sharp and detailed images, richly hued colors, and excellent contrast and shadow delineation.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The DTS® Digital Surround discrete 5.1 soundtrack sounds more coherent and seamless in the delineation of the holosonic soundfield with a smoother, fuller sonic characteristic. Scully’s dialogue during the opening scene sounds less muffled and more similar to the matrix PCM version, as is low level ambient resolution. The music score is well recorded, with an expansive soundstage. Bass extension is sometimes deep, extending to 25Hz in the surrounds, with powerful .1 LFE. Dialogue is often poorly ADR-produced, but otherwise spatially suggestive.
