WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Phantasm IV: Oblivion is the fourth entry in the series about the Tall Man (Angus Scrimm) and his quest to rule the world with his army of undead. Michael Baldwin and Reggie Bannister fight to save mankind by traveling to the Tall Man’s past in hopes of finding a clue with which to defeat his gruesome plan.

LaserDisc Picture:
The 1.85:1 picture exhibits some minor inconsistencies. Images are sharp and detailed with nicely rendered fine detail and texture. Colors are fully, if sometimes, over saturated, with accurate fleshtones, natural colors, but blacks fall just short of true depth. The black and white sequences exhibit good gray scale. Contrast and shadow delineation are nicely rendered, with generally good visual information in the darker scenes. Noise, however, is apparent, as are minor artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Surround matrix soundtrack is nicely produced with an aggressive soundfield presence that is at times effectively dimensional and dynamic sounding. Surround envelopment is aggressive throughout and bass extension is deep and at times powerful to below 25Hz. The music score is haunting, and conveys a chilling effect. Dialogue sounds perfectly natural. This is an effectively creepy sound design.
