WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
In the quiet, yet passionate Italian drama The Best Man, Francesca (Ines Sastre) has been raised to believe that true love exists only in books. So she agrees to an arranged marriage to a man she detests. But when she meets Angelo (Diego Abatantuono), she will stop at nothing to be with him.

LaserDisc Picture:
The 1.66:1 picture exhibits deep yellowish hues throughout the color fidelity, and this apparent stylization affects fleshtones, interiors and exteriors, and creates yellowish whites. Blacks are deep and undefined, but lack true depth. Images are generally sharp, but lack fine detail and definition. Noise is apparent throughout, but there are no distracting artifacts. The film is plugged-up and wanting in natural clarity throughout. Subtitles can be read on widescreen monitors, though the second line is just slightly cut off.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Surround soundtrack has a spatially dimensional soundfield that is not fully realized due to fidelity that is wanting. The sound is uneven and at times bass heavy with background rumble. The music score is not well delineated though with a strong surround presence. Various miking methods make for inconsistent dialogue quality. Overall, clarity is not consistent for a rather mediocre experience.
