WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Foxes tells the story of a group of young women, wise-beyond-their years, and struggling to pass the tremulous transition from adolescence to adulthood. Level-headed Jeanie (Jodie Foster), overweight Madge (Marilyn Kagan, misspelled in the end credits) and flirty Dierdre (Kandice Stroh) are desperate to help their friend Annie (Cherie Currie) find a better life, away from her hostile father—despite their personal problems. But underneath their tough facades, lies a touching and vulnerable young girl in each of them. This young women’s coming-of-age story rings with truth.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, matted at 1.85:1, is soft and hazy throughout, which is often an irritating artifact. Color fidelity is slightly orange in hue. Colors and blacks are undefined and wanting in clarity and naturalness. The picture is often poorly contrasted, making overall images seem cast is slight darkness. Only exteriors appear a little more natural in color fidelity and contrast, but still lack sharpness, detail and clarity. Noise, grain and minor artifacts are apparent, for a generally problematic quality.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is undistinguished monaural that sounds annoyingly strident.
