WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
The Real Blonde takes a satirical look at a pair of live-in lovers—out of work actor Joe (Matthew Modine) and make-up artist Mary (Catherine Keener)—and the surrounding entertainment and fashion industry of New York. Joe and Mary’s relationship is slowly falling apart, due to Joe’s lack of income and their infrequent lovemaking. It will take an amorous self-defense instructor (Denis Leary) and a series of real jobs to mend their dwindling relationship.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, matted at 1.82:1, is solid with good color fidelity and sharp and detailed images with nicely rendered shadow delineation and contrast. There is virtually no noise or artifacts for an overall pleasing picture.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Surround soundtrack is conventional in sound design with subtle surround envelopment provided almost exclusively by the music score. Otherwise, the sound focus is monaural. The music score is nicely recorded, though slightly centered. Dialogue sounds natural with good integration, but this is often a spatially limited soundtrack.
