WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Led Zeppelin’s The Song Remains The Same mixes exciting live 1973 concert footage at New York’s Madison Square Garden with behind-the-scenes moments with the band and visually gripping fantasy sequences to create the ultimate celebration for Zep fans. Included in the thirteen selections are ripping performances of “Whole Lotta Love,” “Stairway To Heaven,” “Dazed And Confused” and “Black Dog” that justify why Led Zeppelin is one of the most legendary bands in rock music history.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, matted at 1.85:1, opens with a gangster style fantasy sequence that is fully saturated with undefined, but generally natural colors. Fleshtones are accurate, colors are rich and solid, and blacks are deep but undefined. Images exhibit acceptable sharpness, but often lack fine detail and clarity. Noise is apparent in these sequences, as are minor artifacts. When the band is on its way to Madison Square Garden, colors are oversaturated and undefined. The concert footage is often pleasantly sharp and detailed.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack consists of three sonic characteristics: movie-type production with an aggressive presence, documentary-style story-telling in stereo with subtle surround and live concert footage. The music segments are distorted but with an aggressive surround presence. Often the performances are out-of-sync with the music heard on the soundtrack.
