WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Anthony Mann’s Strategic Air Command is a classic post World War II salute to Air Force patriotism. James Stewart stars as Dutch Holland, a Cardinal third baseman and veteran pilot who is recruited to the Strategic Air Command—the combat-ready global bombing unit of the Air Force. Dutch’s mission as a bomber pilot is dangerous: he must be ready to deliver a nuclear strike at any time if the threat of war should occur again. June Allyson stars as Dutch’s sugary and ever-supportive wife, Sally.

LaserDisc Picture:
Though dated, the picture exhibits vibrant exterior colors, with generally natural fleshtones and deep blacks. Images are wanting in true sharpness and detail, lacking natural clarity and texture. Interior scenes are plugged-up in appearance, with brownish fleshtones and undefined colors. Contrast and shadow delineation are mediocre and wanting in better detail. Noise is most prominent in interiors, but is apparent throughout, though artifacts are minimal. The picture is matted at 1.75:1.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is undistinguished and compressed monaural with poor ADR-produced dialogue.
