WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Teacher’s Pet is a charming romantic comedy that features Clark Gable as Jim Gannon, the city editor of the New York Evening Chronicle. Gannon is an engrossed school-of-hard-knocks newspaperman who believes experience is better than education—especially when it comes to journalism. But when his superior insists that he join a course taught by the lovely professor Erica Stone (Doris Day), Gannon —amorously impressed with his teacher —masquerades as a novice in her class. Soon he becomes her prized pupil, while he is trying to make her a prize of his own. Gable is perfectly cast as the hard-headed editor who turns the books on his teacher.

LaserDisc Picture:
The black and white picture exhibits a nicely rendered gray scale with deep blacks, white whites and excellent gradation between the two. Images are generally sharp with good detail and definition. Contrast and shadow delineation are also nicely rendered. The picture is quite solid, with minimal noise. Artifacts are apparent, but rarely distract from this pleasant 1.75:1 picture.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is undistinguished monaural but is generally satisfying for its dated production.
