WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Based on the novel by Virginia Woolf, Mrs. Dalloway shares her present-day life along with her bittersweet memories of a lively past. As she prepares for a party at her English country estate, Clarissa Dalloway (Vanessa Redgrave) reminisces about a particular summer long ago and contemplates the decisions she made as a vivacious young woman.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, matted at 1.85:1, exhibits inconsistencies between interiors and exteriors. Exterior colors appear fully saturated, with generally natural fleshtones, rich colors and deep blacks. Images are generally sharp and detailed with nicely rendered fine definition. Interior colors appear slightly oversaturated, plugged up and lacking detail and definition. Contrast and shadow detail are mediocre. Noise and occasional artifacts are apparent.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The matrix Dolby® Surround soundtrack sounds manufactured with forward sounding elements and dialogue that is strident with poor spatial integration. The music score images wide across the soundstage and wraps into the surround channel, though fidelity is rather bright, and at times, annoying.
