WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
High school hottie Zack Siler (Prinze, Jr.) is at risk of losing his status when he is dumped by his “A list” girlfriend in the teen comedy She’s All That. Zack then makes a bet with a buddy that he can turn any girl—even the one most lacking in style and personality—into the prom queen in six weeks. Hello! Is he kidding? But what Zack hadn’t counted on was falling in love with his ugly duckling Laney Boggs (Cook).

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture exhibits a pleasing visual experience throughout. Color balance is naturally rendered, with accurate fleshtones, rich and warm colors and deep, pure blacks. Images are sharp and detailed with pleasing contrast and shadow delineation. While the picture is sometimes plugged-up, both formats are very satisfying. There are no artifacts. The LaserDisc picture measures 1.82:1.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The matrix-encoded PCM dual-channel track is dramatically more spatial when compared to the Dolby® Digital 5.1 channel sound, due to increased activity in the surrounds. However, the Dolby Digital audio has a stronger presence in the low frequencies. The matrix version has a bit of hiss in relatively quiet scenes, while the Dolby Digital track has some low level hum. The dialogue is comfortable to the ears, and nicely balanced throughout.
