WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Professor Daniel Jackson (Spader) is a science expert on a secret mission to decode an Egyptian artifact known as the Stargate. When he deciphers the code, its power is revealed as a mysterious passageway to the unknown. Mission leader, Colonel Jack O’Neil (Russell) commandeers a trip through the Stargate to an civilization on the other side of the universe, similar to that of ancient Egypt.

LaserDisc Picture:
While the previous three LaserDiscs were THX®-quality assured, this latest version is not so credited. Still, the 2.35:1 picture appears to be the same transfer as the LaserDisc reviewed in Issue 22.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
As has been previously reviewed five times—four times released on LaserDisc in both matrix PCM Dolby Surround and Dolby® Digital 5.1 discrete, and on DVD in Dolby Digital—the sound design is superb. In fact, this is one of the best discrete mixes ever produced. The below 25Hz .1 LFE enhancement is powerful and provides the perfect foundation for the spectacular imagery. Surround presence is aggressive and directionalized with excellent center back surround phantom imaging. The DTS® Digital Surround soundtrack is distinguished with greater dynamic impact, superb inner detail and low-level delineation of the holosonic soundfield, as well as exceptional phantom imaging.
