WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
In the suspense drama, True Crime Steve Everett (Eastwood) is a womanizing, boozing reporter who is barely hanging on at his current job. When he is assigned a story on death row inmate Frank Beachum (Washington) he discovers that Beachum did not commit the crime for which he is about to be executed. Racing against the clock, Everett must prove his innocence while trying to save himself as well. Based on the novel by Andrew Klavan. Four words Clint: Keep your shirt on.

LaserDisc Picture:
While the LaserDisc is pleasing, with generally sharp images, the picture is wanting in true depth and definition. Contrast and shadow delineation and rendered nicely, with a natural gradation between darkness and total picture black. Colors are naturally rendered, with rich and vibrant hues, natural fleshtones and deep blacks. There is minor noise apparent on the 1.82:1 picture, but still the imagery is pleasing.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Digital 5.1-channel discrete audio offers an engaging and holosonic experience with aggressive surround presence. The matrix Dolby Surround soundtrack is very good. Dialogue sounds natural, with effective spatial integration. Sound effects, both subtle and aggressive in nature, consistently span all dimensions of the multichannel soundfield. Bass is effectively enhanced with .1 LFE. The music has good fidelity and soundstage spread. The soundtrack is enhanced with an EX-type of decoder such as our reference SMART Devices Center Surround® 3X unit.
