WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Based on the best-selling novel by Frederick Forsyth, The Dogs Of War features Christopher Walken as Jamie Shannon, a mercenary who organizes a strike force to wrench an impoverished West African nation from the grip of a ruthless dictator. Once he arrives in Zangaro, Shannon is confronted with a government that doesn’t trust its own army—let alone its visitors. From there, he must hand pick a team of mercenaries to help overthrow the madman in order to satisfy the shadowy international cartel that hired them.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, matted at 1.82:1, looks dated with dark, subdued colors that are generally natural, but wanting in richness and clarity, especially in interiors. Contrast is overly bright and shadow detail lacks overall definition. Images are often wanting in sharpness and detail. Minor noise and artifacts are apparent.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Surround-credited soundtrack is a very poor presentation that sounds distorted, veiled and compressed. Dialogue and sound effects have been improperly matrix-encoded with sound unnaturally coming from all four channels.
