WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Based on the novel by Forrest Carter, The Education Of Little Tree is a touching story about a young Cherokee boy named Little Tree (Joseph Ashton) who, after the loss of his parents, goes to live with his grandparents during the 1930s. Babe’s James Cromwell stars as Granpa who, along with Granma (Tantoo Cardinal), strive to do their best to teach Little Tree about life, despite difficulties involving the Depression and Prohibition.

LaserDisc Picture:
Beautifully shot on location in the Smoky Mountains, the 1.85:1 picture is lush and natural looking with superb color fidelity. When viewed in a completely darkened room, one can appreciate a beautiful scene of the three main characters walking through the forest by moonlight. Images are sharp and detailed. Only minor noise, especially in the darker scenes, and artifacts distract from this wonderful visual experience.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Surround soundtrack is a nicely rendered atmospheric sound design. Surround envelopment is excellent with a rich tapestry of sound effects and soundfield delineation. The music score is beautifully recorded with a wide and deep soundstage. Dialogue sounds natural and spatially integrated for an enjoyable sonic experience.
