WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Peter Fonda stars in his most acclaimed, and Oscar®-nominated performance as beekeeper Ulee Jackson in Ulee’s Gold. A veteran of the Vietnam war, Ulee finds himself in a battle with an even greater enemy. Bitter with his imprisoned son (Tom Wood) and strung-out daughter-in-law (Christine Dunford), Ulee confronts a long-buried secret that threatens his wounded family.

LaserDisc Picture:
The 1.64:1 picture exhibits warmly rendered, slightly orange-hued fleshtones and colors that sometimes bleed and are wanting in naturalness. Images are generally sharp and detailed, but are often wanting in better clarity and texture. Contrast and shadow delineation are mediocre and wanting in definition. Noise is apparent and distracting in the darker scenes, and there are minor artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
This is a quiet film and the Dolby® Surround soundtrack presents a subtle surround presence complemented with occasional stereo sound effects and a quiet piano music score. Dialogue is natural sounding with good spatial integration.
