WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Gang Related is a cop thriller that finds James Belushi and Tupac Shakur as corrupt police detectives forced to initiate a dangerous scheme to save their own lives. After months of setting up drug deals and killing the dealers—labeling it “gang related” and keeping both the dough and the dope—Detectives Divinci (Belushi) and Rodriguez (Shakur) discover their latest victim was an undercover DEA agent—thrusting their “foolproof” plan madly out of control.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, framed at 2.32:1, exhibits excellent shadow delineation with good visual detail in dark scenes. Chroma fidelity is nicely rendered with rich and warm colors and deep, pure blacks, but fleshtones appear orange in hue. Images are generally sharp, but perhaps due to a slightly dark cast, seem to be wanting in better detail and clarity. Interior noise and minor artifacts are apparent.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Surround soundtrack has a dynamic rhythmic jazz music score with deep bass extension that drives the action. The soundtrack is nicely spatial, often producing an aggressive surround presence. Bass extends to below 25Hz, even in the surrounds. Dialogue sounds natural throughout.
