WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Hard Rain is the forecast for this thriller that features Christian Slater as a duty-bound armored car driver who is determined to deliver the money entrusted to him, no matter who is trying to heist it in the flood-ravaged town. Morgan Freeman hopes to earn his retirement fund out of the $3 million Slater is protecting.

LaserDisc Picture:
The 2.32:1 picture, with its effective gloomy weather looks excellent with otherwise vibrant colors, natural fleshtones and deep, solid blacks. Images are sharp and detailed with excellent clarity and texture. Contrast and shadow detail also excel, with much of the film taking place at night, the film provides naturally rendered lighting and visual information in the darkness.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
This is a terrific soundtrack though the Dolby® Digital 5.1 discrete is sometimes lacking surrounds that are both subtle and aggressive on the matrix PCM version. At times, the rain doesn’t sound natural on either version. The discrete’s aggressive split surround envelopment are exciting, and the .1 low frequency effects are powerful to below 25Hz. Dialogue is generally natural sounding when not ADR-produced.
