WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Switchback is a surprisingly entertaining and suspenseful thriller that pits FBI agent Frank LaCrosse (Dennis Quaid) against Bob Goodall (Danny Glover in a powerful uncharacteristic role), a murderer and kidnapper of his son. R. Lee Ermey is the sheriff who jeopardizes his career by helping the desperate LaCrosse track down the elusive killer. An unsuspecting drifter (Jared Leto) has hitched a ride with Goodall and could serve as a scapegoat when LaCrosse closes in.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, framed at 2.30:1, looks natural with accurate fleshtones, rich and warm colors and deep, solid blacks. In some darker interior scenes, colors seem to bleed slightly. Images are sharp and detailed, but sometimes wanting in finer background detail. Shadow delineation is excellent, as well as contrast. Minor chroma noise is apparent, but there are no artifacts to distract.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Surround soundtrack has a sweeping orchestral score that is nicely recorded with excellent soundstage imaging and, at times, bass extension. Dialogue is intelligible though closely miked and, at times, chesty sounding and wanting in spatial integration. Surround envelopment is aggressive and sound effects are dimensional.
