WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Based on the musical play by John Van Druten, stories by Christopher Isherwood and book by Joe Masteroff, Cabaret is the eight-time Academy Award®-winning musical that brought stardom and Oscars® for Liza Minnelli, Joel Grey and director/choreographer Bob Fosse. Set in 1931 Berlin, as the Nazis rise to power, the story intercuts the menacing happenings outside and the escapist entertainment inside the Kit Kat Club. There, starry-eyed Sally Bowles (Liza Minnelli) and an impish master of ceremonies (Joel Grey), set the stage for decadent fun, despite the political unrest outside the club. John Kander’s music and Fred Ebb’s lyrics bring life to this wonderful musical landmark.
