WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Anabel (Mara Wilson) has A Simple Wish. She desperately wants Oliver (Robert Pastorelli), her widower father, to get the part in a Broadway musical so the family doesn’t have to move to Nebraska. So she calls upon her fairy godmother, but discovers that the spellcaster assigned to her neighborhood is Murray (Martin Short), a bumbling first-timer—not to mention the only male in the North American Fairy Godmothers Association. When Murray accidentally turns Oliver into a statue, instead of a star, he and Anabel only have until midnight to reverse the spell—or it will last forever. At the same time, the pair must thwart fairy-godmother-turned-black-magician Claudia’s (Kathleen Turner) evil plans to take over all spell-casting services.
