WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Speechless is a romantic comedy starring Geena Davis and Michael Keaton as two speechwriters in opposite political camps who engage in a game of one-upmanship while becoming romantically involved. After the initial meeting as two insomniacs looking for sleeping pills in a convenience store they are immediately attracted to each other and share an evening of flirtation before finding out they are in opposite camps. Putting politics first they use each others campaign promises to slam the other candidate. The more they insult and stab each other in the back in their love-hate relationship the more they realize that true love doesn’t run along party lines.

LaserDisc Picture:
The matted 1.85:1 picture is overall sharp and detailed but with varying scene quality. Colors are slightly oversaturated and deeply hued with solid blacks for a pumped-up colorized look. Fleshtones are inconsistent and the picture is virtually absent of artifacts, grain and noise.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is essentially mono disguised by the music score’s subtle surround presence.
