WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
John Huston’s Prizzi’s Honor is based on the novel by Richard Condon and tells the story of a hit-man who works for the Prizzi’s, a rich crime syndicate family. Jack Nicholson is Charley Partanna, the hired gun who meets and falls for freelance killer Irene Walker (Turner), secretly hired by the Prizzi’s to eliminate someone who betrayed the family. Their lives end up completely complicated when they are each assigned mutually exclusive contracts. The movie was nominated for eight Academy Awards® with one statue awarded for Best Supporting Actress® to the director’s daughter Anjelica as Maerose Prizzi, the boss’ daughter who has eyes for Charley.

LaserDisc Picture:
The 1.85:1 picture is of poor quality, exhibiting a dark character, with dull colors, inconsistent fleshtones, poor shadow detail, and images that are unfocused. Noise is apparent throughout, with distracting artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The sound is dated and conventional movie stereo, except for the expansive Alex North score, which is wonderful.
