WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Ex-Navy SEAL and mild-mannered cook Casey Ryback (Seagal) finds himself in the hands of danger once again in Under Siege 2: Dark Territory. The Grand Continental passenger train, while en route from Denver to Los Angeles, is taken hostage by a mercenary army and their lunatic leader, Dane (Bogosian), a renegade electronics whiz. But their plan doesn’t go as smooth as hoped, and the train becomes a battleground as Ryback moves from car to car, using the skills he was trained for, to neutralize the enemy and save three million people from annihilation.

LaserDisc Picture:
The 1.85:1 picture exhibits excellent quality with a slightly soft and filtered treatment. Color fidelity is superb with natural fleshtones and blacks that are deep and solid. Shadow delineation is also excellent. There is some slight noise apparent in the darker scenes, and the occasional artifact is noticed. Noteworthy is the outdoor photography along the train route, which is breathtaking in its scenic appeal.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Surround soundtrack is essentially restricted to a subtle surround envelopment, but occasionally the aggressiveness in the surround provides added dramatic impact. The soundtrack is not as articulate in terms of fidelity and resolution, but nevertheless is satisfying overall. The music score adds to the subtle ambient envelopment.
