WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Waterworld is an explosive, high seas action adventure depicting mankind’s future plight to survive the aftermath of a water-covered Earth. Kevin Costner stars as the Mariner, a mysterious mutant drifter with webbed feet and gills, forced to save Enola (Tina Majorino), a young girl with a mysterious map tattooed on her back, and her adoptive mother, Helen (Jeanne Tripplehorn). Soon the Mariner is forced into a war to save Enola from the evil Deacon (Dennis Hopper) who is out for the map tattoo that leads to Dryland.

LaserDisc Picture:
The 1.85:1 picture exhibits exemplary THX® quality. Images are sharp and detailed, with excellent color fidelity and contrast. The imagery is natural with vivid colors, accurate fleshtones, and deep, solid blacks. Shadow detail is superb and there is virtually no noise or artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack projects powerful dynamics and bass extension to below 25Hz, even in the surrounds. Intriguing sound and Foley effects add to the subtle surround presence. The music score is dynamic and expansive, with excellent soundstage and depth imaging. But fidelity and resolution are not the very best.
