WSR Narrative Review |
|
Story Synopsis:
Pulp Fiction is Quentin Tarantino’s hyper-violent masterpiece that weaves three separate narratives together as characters destinies cross in a seedy underworld. Combining the tales of two hitmen (John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson), their boss (Ving Rhames), his wife (Uma Thurman), a boxer (Bruce Willis) and two robbers (Tim Roth and Amanda Plummer), violence begets violence in a way unlike anything you have ever seen or experienced.
LaserDisc Picture:
The 2.32:1 picture, like the disc reviewed in Issue 17, should surely please.
LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The result is improved presentation quality, particularly in the picture, over that of the previous Miramax (3614AS) disc reviewed in Issue 17, November/December 1995. This edition’s PCM soundtrack has been exclusively remastered (with background noise heard in extremely quiet scenes) from a Dolby SR print master, while a new 5.1 discrete mix was assembled from the original mixing stems and encoded in Dolby® Digital AC-3®. The differences are subtle except for the matrix version having the slightest narrower soundstage.
